World Record Recurve Dan Brown

Don Brown’s 1,222-metre shot in 1987 was made using an unlimited conventional recurve flight bow. This bespoke high-performance bow was crafted by the legendary bowmaker Harry Drake (who also holds the absolute record for the footbow). Technical features of the bow type: It was an extremely modified recurve bow (often referred to as a ‘flight bow’). Unlike modern records set today, historical records indicate that it was made from traditional natural materials – a composite of wood, horn and sinew. Not a compound bow Although compound bows (with pulleys) are technically more efficient, Don Brown shot around 15 metres further with this recurve bow than Kevin Strother’s compound record, which still stands today (1,207 metres in 1992).
